Sarah’s love of all living creatures knew no bounds. They were all her favorites but as we all know her rats were her most favorites π She rescued many but one stands out. His name was Stubby, and he was a three-legged double amputee rodent who was missing his tail. I’m certain his double-amputee status influenced Sarah’s decision to adopt this particular rat.
Stubby’s mission in life was to prove he could do anything a four-legged rodent with an intact tail could do. He would always seek out the highest point in a room and do his best to climb to the top of it, even if the highest point happened to be your head and the most direct route was up your pants leg.
One night Stubby was sitting in Sarah’s lap while she brushed him. “Potatoes!” I heard Sarah say. Puzzled, I looked over at her and asked why she was asking me for a potato. She said “You’re growing potatoes! In your ear!”, then even more loudly “Poh-TAY-toes!!”
It took me a second to realize she was talking to Stubby while cleaning his face on the same side as his amputated leg.
This gave us both quite a laugh.
